    North America Enterprise Infrastructure Engineering — VxBlock Engineer

    Position Summary:
    The successful candidate for this engineering position will be a member of a core team focused on the design and 3rd level support of VCE VxBlock systems and EMC PowerMax storage.  This infrastructure supports multiple platforms including the VMWare virtual server infrastructure and AIX systems.  Provide engineering design support for enterprise-level solutions using physical and virtual server hosting, off-site data replication and storage solutions. Support multiple sites for high availability and redundancy. This engineer will have daily interactions with business units and project management teams to meet technical requirements for initiatives.

    Primary Job Responsibilities:

    The VxBlock support role is responsible for testing, implementing, maintaining and optimizing the virtual infrastructure in accordance with standards, security policies and guidelines
    VxBlock Support Engineers typically span VMware products and related infrastructure including: ESXi, vSphere, VMware SRM, Cisco UCS, Cisco MDS, XIV, XtermIO, AIX, Linux, SRDF and Powermax
    Additional functions and processes include service and product management, performance/capacity management, patching/version management, and Level 3 operations support
    Monitor and optimize the performance of systems, virtual infrastructure and storage platforms
    This role will support complex systems that may have system-wide impact and integrates across the organization, along with complex infrastructure solutions
    Ensure completeness of technical requirements and functional architecture analysis for the design and implementation of system and business solutions. Identify requirements gaps or issues
    Diagnose system failures and take corrective action, in effort to ensure continuity of operations
    Members in this role need good communication skills and must be able to work collaboratively with third party vendors, business users and other Infrastructure colleagues
    Coordinate and work on multiple cross-functional initiatives/work groups and tickets as a team member, sometimes as a team lead or advisor
    Act as an escalation point for all issues related to VxBlocks and PowerMax Storage
    Automate systems provisioning, performance and scalability characteristics of the VxBlock and PowerMax storage.  Ansible experience a plus
    Provide preventative maintenance routines to ensure system performance, availability, and security
    Assist in the development and execution of disaster recovery plans
    Participate in change and incident management

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
    Must have experience in VxBlock systems
    Must have experience and knowledge of Cisco UCS, Cisco MDS, EMC SRDF, XIV, AIX, Linux (Redhat & Sles), Windows and various EMC Storage platforms
    Practical hands-on expert experience with Storage systems and/or VxBlock technologies
    Five years (or equivalent knowledge) of hands on technical experience with Storage systems, VxBlock technologies, Cisco UCS, vSphere, VMware ESXi, SRM, vRealize Operations, preferred
    Cisco/Brocade SAN Technologies, PowerMax, VMAX, VNX, XtremIO, Isilon, and ECS
    Good understanding of Networking concepts, Cisco Nexus experience preferred
    Excellent problem determination skills, and the ability to debug complex-cross systems problems, and document root cause including remediation and detection
    Ability to work independently and on a team with colleagues across the globe
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    Self-driven with the ability to manage workload without direct supervision
    Demonstrates knowledge of a broad range of technology towers i.e.: Storage, Virtualization, Intel, Networking, Data Center Migration and Disaster Recovery
    Additional skills that would be beneficial: Competency in scripting (Bash, Perl, Python, Ansible, PowerShell)
    Not required, but hands-on knowledge of Spectrum Scale (formerly General Parallel File System), including performance tuning is a plus ​
