Title: Technical Writer – Machesney Park, IL
The Technical Writer creates and edits content for release documentation, user guides, and training resources. This position is responsible for interviewing subject matter experts and conducting audience analysis. The Technical Writer delivers accurate documentation in a format that adheres to Technical Communication standards and the Content Style Guide. The ideal candidate is creative, organized, resourceful, and has a passion for taking complex concepts and translating them into a professional, user-centered documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Draft, edit, and format moderately complex technical manuals and other project documentation.
Analyze information and user requirements to ensure that documentation is clear, concise, and valid.
Deliver user-centered documentation in a variety of formats including how-to guides, executive summaries, release notes, detailed instruction manuals, and standard operating procedures.
Research and translate technical information for technical and non-technical users.
Document a project schedule for documentation with milestones that are in alignment with product development milestones.
Provide oversight for all phases of the documentation development life cycle.
Work with other technical writers to provide peer editing and define writing standards.
Collaborate with the product development team, software developers, quality assurance, and software support teams to acquire subject knowledge.
Work with internal and external stakeholders to obtain input and apply feedback accurately and timely.
Contribute to the Technology Department by applying technical communication standards to the development of products.

Strong organizational and project management skills. Ability to meet tight deadlines.
Experience in information reuse, document design, and information architecture.
Adaptable in dynamic situations. Self-starter and ability to multitask.
Experience working with a team. Product development and/or with a software engineering preferred but not required.
Ability to quickly learn and understand technical specifications, system requirements, and other application information.
Familiarity with Technical Documentation in an Agile environment and understanding of software development life cycle.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, computer science, communications, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Three years of technical writing experience (software products preferred but not required).
Experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat (or similar tools of the trade).
Proficient use of MS Word and MS Excel
Certification as a Technical Writer (such as the STC Foundation Certification or similar) preferred but not required
