Job Title: Storage Design Engineer
Job Summary / Description: Enterprise storage engineering role contributes to the team in designing, engineering, documenting, and supporting the implementation of new technologies in the storage domain for Enterprise Computing Services. Applicant should be well-versed in a wide range of storage, networking and compute technologies.
Technical Skills – Requirements
Dell EMC PMAX/VMAX – Experience with VMAX 3, VMAX AF and/or PowerMax arrays. SRP management; Working knowledge of replicated and non-replicated provisioning. Performance monitoring and troubleshooting. Capacity management in a virtualized thin environment. Working knowledge of Unisphere for VMAX, HyperMax OS, SRDF/A with global consistency groups, TimeFinder Clones, SnapVX, thin provisioning, and data reduction technologies.
Brocade SAN – Experience with director-class storage area networking utilizing fiber channel protocol. Experience with FC zoning, aliases, performance tuning, error detection and resolution.
NetApp AFF/FAS – Knowledge of All Flash FAS and Fabric-attached Storage hardware; ONTAP 9 operating environment; FC, CIFS/SMB, NFSv3/v4, protocols; Aggregate and volume management; thin provisioning and data reduction, SnapMirror asynchronous replication, OnCommand System Manger, OnCommand Unified Manager and OnCommand Insight experience helpful.
Technical Skills – Desirable
Dell EMC VPLEX – Experience with VPLEX VS clusters in front of a VMAX FC environment.
Dell EMC Data Domain – Data Domain appliance architecture and product family knowledge; Oracle RMAN Boost Direct backup experience; Familiarity with Data Domain features: CIFS, NFS, DD Boost for RMAN & SQL, RetentionLock.
Veeam Availability Suite – Any exposure to Veeam Backup & Replication architecture would be a plus; Integration with VMware vSphere, NetApp ONTAP snapshots and Data Domain Boost backup repositories. Veeam Enterprise Manager, Veeam ONE utilities.
IBM Cloud Object Storage – Experience or exposure to this or similar on premises object-based storage solution a plus; Integration with IBM ECM products with protected vaults beneficial. Managing RESTful API access (i.e. S3).
Storage load generation/evaluation in a lab environment, light scripting (Perl, PowerShell, Python, KSH).
Work with Architecture, Implementation and Operations to develop engineering designs to facilitate projects through the full SDLC lifecycle (initiate, define, design, build, run).
Facilitate reporting on capacity, availability and performance management metrics to ensure a stable and supportable storage environment.
Provide Level 3 Engineering support for Level 2 Operations team.
Five years of experience building and supporting enterprise storage solutions including Dell EMC VMAX, PMAX, NetApp ONTAP and Brocade fiber channel SAN technologies.
Provide technical direction to team and service providers. Excellent understanding of current storage technology trends across all managed computing platforms (AIX, Solaris, Linux, Windows, VMware, etc.). Experience with disaster recovery techniques including asynchronous replication, fail-over and failback processes.
Technical expertise across various disciplines to resolve complex infrastructure integration issues/problems and interface with multiple vendors to coordinate resolution to both hardware and software problems; Full project/product life cycle management experience; ability to handle large, complex projects and support Priority 1 incidents.
