Title: Public Relations Coordinator
Work with senior executives and marketing colleagues to identify PR initiatives that support brand and major business objectives. Understand the full range of techniques to ensure highly competitive and positive editorial share of voice for in Tier 1 media along with critical trade press and, eventually, mainstream general news media as appropriate opportunities arise.
Help retain its position as the pre-eminent leader in its core businesses in the face of increasingly creative and aggressive pressure amongst competitors, both long-term and emerging. Help to develop forward-looking and comprehensive PR plans that are anticipatory and opportunistic. Build plans and strategies that meet the complexities of the individual lines of business and ensure those plans tie into to the larger brand image.
Help provide support for crisis communications and develop PR response to opportunities and challenges that may arise unexpectedly. Think in a 360 manner about the brand and incorporate other communications functions (internal, client, policy, etc.) into a strategy both over time as well as in real-time response scenarios.
Demonstrate a track record to generate superior positive coverage of in the most strategic media outlets for news and thought leadership. Strong relationships with key journalists and editorial contacts at key media such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Financial Times, Reuters, AP, CNN, CNBC, Fox, Huffington Post, Bloomberg, The Economist, and national news outlets, by way of example only. Cultivate ongoing opportunities for consultants to be quoted on issues of importance to our clients and to the growth of and our brand.
Work with marketing and PR colleagues on a collaborative basis. Trusted advisor and effective communicator to senior executives regarding major issues and opportunities for , competitor analysis, and contextual merchandising of own PR results. Understanding of the consultant/client relationship and ability to produce high quality materials and strategies for consultants to leverage in their client relationship-building and growth process.
Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree. Master’s Degree a plus.
Experience: 3-7 years in a communications function such as public relations, media relations or corporate communications in-house or with a relevant marketing services agency (public relations, social/digital media, full-service advertising/branding); prefer at least 1-4 years with a professional services firm.
Knowledge and Skills:
Persuasive presentation and selling skills for use with senior business leadership, business partners of and other stakeholders. For use in coaching, merchandising, counseling on strategy.
Strong, constantly nurtured relationships with Tier 1 media. A full multi-media understanding of the editorial landscape and how to generate content that is relevant across a broad spectrum of delivery mechanisms.
Excellent understanding and experience with digital and social media, including a passion and curiosity about the emerging trends on that landscape.
Competitive instincts to be able to predict, react with agility and pivot on a global level to keep pace with an increasingly aggressive peer group for share of voice and leadership positioning.
Understanding of basic principles of branding and ability to judge strategies, creative and content to assure they are in service to a newly articulated brand and each of the lines of business.
Project management ability including multitasking and managing multiple stakeholders above, below and laterally.
Creative abilities to challenge the PR function to consistently perform at the peak of industry standards, constantly learning what is new and modern and what approaches possibly need to be retired.
Ability to develop 360 communications plans at project level and on an annual arc. Ability to design programming to deliver results that ladder back to higher order brand message.
Operate effectively in a complex, global matrixed environment with multiple lines of business and within a parent company that has other operating companies with whom often collaborates. Ability to understand an organization’s unique rhythms of getting business done, challenging where appropriate but not engaging in nor contributing to workplace politics.
